This is a new project that began several years ago as Bruce Gertz studied the solo music of the legendary bassist, Dave Holland. He tried to study privately with Dave however at the time Dave was not teaching privately. He attended most of Dave Holland's appearances at the Regattabar in Cambridge, MA and got friendly with him. Recently Dave and the President of the Royal Academy of Music in London were guests in the audience where Bruce was performing with his longtime musical pal, Jerry Bergonzi. It happened that on that evening Bruce was playing his 1820, 7/8 size Tyrolean bass. This is the same type of bass used on the classic solo bass album of Dave Holland, Emerald Tears, ECM. "That record totally killed me, I wore out the vinyl" Dave was very complimentary to Bruce and gave him the extra confidence to pursue compiling the culmination of solo, bass tracks that were mostly recorded by his long time friend, fellow bassist and terrific engineer, Peter Kontrimas of the well known PBS recording studio of Westwood, Massachusetts. Here is track one from the long awaited and soon to be released album, Singularity.
